These are pictures of people and animals who we have come to know as friends and family. They help us find homes for Greyhounds, they foster, they fund raise, they help transport and they do many other things that enable us to continue. We simply could not continue without their help.

Rebecca Hayes and Family
beckyhilee
Hi, I'm Lee, for those of you who don't know who and what I am, I'm a Border Collie. My mom, Rebecca Hayes, is a professional dog trainer. We help the Northwest Canadian Greyhound League by helping train greyhounds that are going to new homes. My mom works on stuff like sit, down and other good behaviour and I get to run around like a crazy dog and see if those Greyhounds want to play nice or not. Most of them are really nice and just want to play with me but some of them think I'm good to chase because I have a really white fluffy tail. My mom works alot with those ones and when she's finished they know how to play nice too. When Auntie Cindy and Uncle Bryan want a break from all the Greyhounds my mom and I take Sonny out there (that's where he came from) and we get to spend the night. We play, play, play and then we all argue about who gets to sleep in the bed, 'cause it's their bed but it's my mom. Usually mom gets mad and kicks us all out of bed and we have to sleep on the floor, drat.
beckyapollo
This is my brother Apollo. He is just a little squirt. When he's not working as an actor on stage or following mom around sucking up for treats he's got the important job of finding out just how nice those Greyhounds are with little squirty dogs. That's really important in case they have to go live with one. We also live with a little, old (16 years old) grumpy Shitsue dog named Scamper who does this job too but he wouldn't let us take his picture 'cause his hair's all messy. My hair's always messy but you can take my picture anytime.

The new dog in the house is this skinny, black Greyhound named Sonny. He used to be a race dog and his name was Unruly Blessing. With a fancy name like that he doesn't think he has to do anything at all but mom still makes him sit and lie down. She's trying to teach him to snuggle on the couch but he's a big chicken and I don't want him up there anyway because that's my spot (when mom and Apollo are not hogging it.)
elmo
This is Elmo, obviously the cat. Auntie Cindy only has short haired cats, so she brings those Greyhounds over to our house and let's them get a really good look and sniff at Elmo 'cause he has really long hair. I'm scared silly of Elmo 'cause he's super fast at swatting my nose and he sharpens his claws first. Those Greyhounds sure learn quick that kitties are not to be messed with if you want to keep a pretty profile. I just have to show them my scars and they're scared of Elmo too.

Here's our family picture that Auntie Cindy took this summer and a picture of my mom reading a book to Auntie Cindy's little lurcher girl, Holly. The book is all about doggie nutrition 'cause Holly is a fatty and has to go on a diet, but don't tell her I said that or she might not play with me anymore.

MAUREEN, ED AND BOONE NELMS
nelmsfamily
Maureen, Ed and Boone Nelms live in Victoria, BC and they help with so many things it's hard to keep track. They fund raise and do home visits and they do the most important job of all, they promote Greyhounds. Not just for Northwest Canadian Greyhound League but for other adoption groups as well. Maureen is a regular contributor to Celebrating Greyhounds Magazine and her years of experience make her advice well worth listening too, so listen up. Their sharing, caring, Greyhound hearts have helped find homes for many a Greyhound and most likely many more to come. Thankfully Boone shares them with us.

SUSAN, LUNA and WHOOLIE MACKEY
darlinluna2whooliesusan
Susan is the big dog of the house and Luna is her trusty sidekick (the whippet in the first photo). Susan does one of the hardest jobs around, she's a foster mom. She takes a 'baby' into her home and loves them into good dogs and sends them on their way (well she's supposed to anyway but Whoolie obviously wasn't paying attention to the rules). Who's Laughing Now (or Whoolie), the fawn in the other picture, is Susan's first failed foster. She fell in love with him and he moved in permanently. Anyone who has a Greyhound that was fostered by Auntie Sue knows the time, love and attention that went into making their dog the best it could be. If you find you have the perfect Greyhound; one that doesn't raid the counters, hog the bed or rudely grab your fingers when getting a treat; that's one that Auntie Sue loved for you. Thank her with big hugs everytime you see her. Luna is another little tester that helps all those BiG Greyhounds learn to play nice with little dogs. An important and sometimes risky job that she does for a hand-full of treats, a spot in the bed and a hug from her mom. Who could ask for more? Whoolie, well he fills a big space in Susan's heart and that's a job well done.

WENDY HARVEY, MICHAEL MATTHEWS, PHAROH AND WALLACE
michaelboyzswendyboyzs
Wendy and Michael are more of the same wonderful Greyhound people that work at promoting Greyhounds. Almost every weekend they dress up the boys, Pharoh and Wallace and head down to a busy street where they live. They walk the boys and talk to anyone that wants to listen. They spread the word about the wonderful nature of Greyhounds and they encourage people to adopt one of these magnificent friends. They volunteer their time selflessly and work at promoting all Greyhounds, no matter where they come from.

DEANNA JOHNSTONE
deannagur
Deanna Johnstone is a terrific supporter of greyhound rescue. She helps with transporting, home visits, follow ups, applications and every other imaginable job there is to do. She is pictured here (on right) with her mother-in-law who played navigator (on left) and three hounds she helped transport from Alberta to lower Vancouver Island. Deanna helps several different Greyhound groups and we are very thankful to be one of them.

SUSAN, PAT AND BUDDY HIRST
buddysusan
Susan, Pat(photo not available) and Buddy help in a number of ways. They volunteer at fund raisers, promote greyhounds to anyone willing to listen and point people toward our website. Buddy just went through major surgery and we are all praying for his complete recovery.

There are many more people that help us in a variety of ways. We don't have pictures of everyone just yet, but keep checking back as we will continue to update the friends and family webpage.
